1st August 2011 – Everything on hold for kart star Will

Will Gale is putting a brave face on a disappointing 2011. Having won the Winter Series Rookie Kart Championship, Will had sponsorship secured to compete in the national championship starting in April but then suffered a last minute withdrawal of funding. Then, a promising new sponsorship lead in the Middle East turned out to be an attempted fraud. So far, the Derby ace hasn’t found the deal that will see him competing at the highest level in the UK and now, to cap it all, Will is suffering from a debilitating medical condition that threatens his karting and his involvement in professional academy football.

Will said, “It’s frustrating because I proved with my three year old kart that I can compete with the factory drivers in their brand new karts. I love my football too but at the moment I get a lot of dizziness.” Will is awaiting an operation later this month to get him back to being fighting fit but still needs to secure a sponsorship deal to get his karting career back on track.

24 July 2011 – A Summer Smile for Derby

The Derby Telegraph teamed up with Derbyshire County Cricket Club to cheer up some of the local people who have featured in the newspaper this year. Having run a number of stories covering Will Gale’s problems with sponsorship, Will had a very much appreciated invite to watch a one-day cricket match between Derbyshire and Kent.

RamTec Motorsport team boss, David Gale, said, “It’s a shame that Will couldn’t make this event but I’m happy to represent him at a great match on a glorious summer’s day. Our thanks go to all of the people at Derbyshire County Cricket Club, the Derby Telegraph, and the sponsors, who have worked so hard to make this such a special day.” The event hosted over 150 guests who were treated to superb hospitality and a stirring Derbyshire win!

12 May 2011 – Full of Middle Eastern Promise

In a sad double-whammy, having already been let down on a sponsorship deal just before the opening round of his 2011 National Championship campaign, 12 year old kart racer Will Gale has discovered that a proposed sponsorship from Dubai was part of an elaborate attempted fraud. The perpetrator used a trusted Al Raha International email address and the official signature of the Yas Marina Grand Prix Circuit.

Hamdan Ad (pictured left) sent numerous messages to the team claiming to have brokered a commercial sponsorship deal starting in May 2011. Derby-based RamTec Motorsport was hoping that this would get the team back into the running, having missed the opening round of the national kart championship early in April.

Team boss David Gale said, “We’re very careful about verifying identities, particularly with introductions that come via the internet. Fortunately, our belt and braces approach to security led us to check with the Yas Marina circuit’s senior management. Once we’d done that, it became apparent that all was not well. With the recent financial scams perpetrated within sport, particularly the Notts County FC deal that is local to us, we’ve learned to be extra-vigilant.”

Peter Rae, Communications Director at Dubai’s Yas Marina Grand Prix circuit, confirmed the email signature as ‘genuine’ but the sender was not connected to the circuit. He added, “We’re sorry but, as far as we know, this is the first time that this has happened.”

David Gale said, “It’s disgusting that anyone would try to perpetrate such an act on a 12 year old who worked so hard to win the 2011 Winter Series Rookie Championship title. It’s really not the most auspicious start to our National Championship campaign. We’re now forced to sit it out until we find the right company that wants to take advantage of the tremendous promotional package that we’ve put together.”

21 March 2011 – Young Kart Star’s Dreams are Crushed

We failed to hit our deadline. Will Gale will miss the opening round of the national championships. The last minute withdrawal of promised funding just before the championship registration deadline caught us on the hop. We certainly weren’t anticipating it with Will having just been crowned 2011 Winter Series Rookie Champion. Will is crushed.

As per usual, the little people helped as much as they could. Thank you.

***LATEST – 16th APRIL*** We missed the first round of the National Championship. A look at the results suggests that Will would have scored a top ten finish. Given that everyone has to drop their points from one round, it’s not too late to get get back on track. For the moment, we’re forced to sit it out until we find a sponsor who wants to benefit from the unique package that we can offer.

Some have been asking for a breakdown of our costs, just to get us up and running. However, for those who asked for our emergency budget cost breakdown: for 2011, we need £3K@month x 8 months to do the season on a bare-bones budget with our existing equipment. 18 March 2011 – 4 hour Deadline for Will Gale

With just four hours to go, this will be our last post before our UK national kart championship registration deadline of Friday 18th March. Having put contingency plans in place, we had been assured that we would not be put in this difficult position in the week of championship registration but circumstances have dropped us in the sticky stuff right at the critical moment. If we miss the deadline today, we’ll miss the first round of the national championship. Will has already suffered huge trauma in his life and his racing was the one thing that was keeping him going but there are still four hours to go and we never won a thing in our lives by giving up…

18 March 2011 – 8 hour Deadline for Will Gale

We have just 8 hours to put a funding package together to register Will Gale for the national kart championship. Will wanted to add his voice, “It’s not like I took the easy way for my first race. I got stuck in with the toughest competition there is, with a second-hand kart that’s so old no one else would even bother turning up with it. I had a top ten finish from the back of the grid in my first ever race meeting, won the novice trophy in my second meeting, and won the Winter Series Rookie Championship title with my last meeting. It’s the same outside school as it is inside: if you’re below average and behave badly, you get money thrown at you. Do I have to say ‘sorry’ for being good at something?”

If you call, please bear in mind that Will may be listening in as part of a school project on marketing. We had a particularly offensive call from a senior executive from one company, claiming that we were already wealthy people and not worthy of support! He evidently hadn’t watched the video on this link.

6 March 2011 – Will Gale is the 2011 Winter Series Rookie Champion!

Will Gale completed his debut kart racing campaign by winning the Trent Valley Kart Club’s Winter Series Rookie title at the final round held at the PFi International Kart Circuit on Sunday. Will survived a traumatic weekend of mechanical mishaps to get enough points in the WTP A final to secure top newcomer in the UK’s most prestigious club championship. Will said, “Our early season results meant that all we needed was a safe finish to get enough points for the title but, with two engine changes after the heats, I didn’t know if we were going to make it!”

Team boss David Gale said, “Will drove the wheels off a kart that really wasn’t competitive. He’s driving a second-hand, three year old kart against the country’s top factory teams. He has no business being on the same lap, never mind beating them!”

“Sadly, we’re now critical on funding, having only two weeks to fund our entry into the National Championships. We’re still working with our Dubai contacts to bring in long-term investment partners but I’m frankly staggered that we haven’t yet found anyone in the UK who can see the long-term commercial potential of a young driving star who is also an academy footballer at a professional club. We can certainly offer a better return than either property or the bank rate! We’re now facing the ‘stop racing’ scenario that we really didn’t want to have to contemplate.”

20 February 2011 – Will Gale at Everton FC

Will Gale travelled to Liverpool with Kettering Town FC to play a mixed-age Everton FC Academy side in a series of matches designed to allow each side to experiment with different shapes and configurations. Will Gale said, “Everton has one of the biggest academies in the Premiership and they moved the ball very quickly. We’ve done well against the Premiership oposition that we’ve played so far but I don’t think we were helped today by a very early start and a long coach journey.”

Will was treated to a close shave with ’Mr Hair’, Everton’s afro-topped, star mid-fielder Marouane “Screech” Fellaini, as the host’s premiership players mingled with the Kettering visitors but that didn’t seem to unnerve the young Kettering full back. RamTec team boss, Dave Gale said, “It’s been very noticable that, since Will started in motorsport, nothing in football fazes him anymore. Rather than being nervous, Will now seems to rise to the big occasions but still manages to stay relaxed. It’s one of the benefits of his involvement in professional sport that feeds into everything else that he does.”

RamTec is proud to launch its new Infosite at www.ramtecmotorsport.co.uk, delivered as a one-stop-shop for news on twelve year old Derby-based kart racer Will Gale’s progress, as well as important information for potential sponsors and investors.

Marketing Coordinator, Adele Chatterton said, “The site has our press releases, links to video, both our Sponsors and Partners Prospectuses, and other downloadable media, so that everything is in one place. We also have a free subscription facility, enabling regular automated updates via email. With direct feeds to both Twitter and Facebook, we’re fully integrated with social media and can even update the news sections from our mobile phones. The site is designed to support our global search for commercial backing.”

RamTec Motorsport team boss, David Gale, said, “I’ve lost count of the number of emails telling us that, ‘Will has a glittering career ahead of him’. That’s nonsense. Without backing Will is going nowhere, so that’s the main focus of our new Infosite. It’s interesting to note that had Lewis Hamilton been part of our Partner Programme, investors would have made £5.5m each. McLaren’s long-term investment has been repaid many times over. We need investors not well-wishers. It’s a case of: ‘No bucks, no Buck Rogers’.”
